Overview:

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity founded in 1826, is a world-renowned centre of excellence for conservation science and applied conservation. ZSL’s mission is to promote and achieve the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats. This is realised by carrying out field conservation and research in over 50 countries across the globe and through education and awareness-raising at our two zoos, ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, inspiring people to take conservation action.

Role Profile:

We are looking for an enthusiatic and friendly volunteer to distribute and service ZSL collection tins within their local area.

Volunteers will be tasked with recruiting an intial 15 tin sites across their local area in various locations such as shops, pubs and cafes, and banking the proceeds on a 3 monthly basis.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Find suitable locations to place 15 ZSL collection tins and record these with the Challenge & Community team.
  • Keep records of where all tins have been placed.
  • Visit premises on a regular basis to service collection tins (recommended every 3 months).
  • Build relationships with site contacts, ensuring that tins are well positioned and visible.
  • Ask premises to display posters/leaflets to promote ZSL’s events.
  • If a tin site is not performing, being proactive in finding the tin a new location.
  • Collect, count and bank donations and record the activity with the Challenge & Community Team.
Person Specification:
  • Self-motivated.
  • Personable and friendly.
  • Organised approach to record keeping.
  • Confident to approach businesses and organisations who may be able to host a collection tin.
  • Basic IT skills (desirable).
  • Interest in ZSL and the work the charity carries out.

Please note that this is a voluntary position. However, travel expenses (within zones 1-6) will be reimbursed.

  • Templates and guidance to help volunteers in their role.
  • Regular support and contact from the Challenge & Community team.
  • Valuable experience in developing administration, communication and organisation skills.
