British Antarctic Survey is looking for a Zooplankton Acoustician to join our Ecosystems team.

Purpose

The post-holder will have the key role of contributing acoustic analyses of krill distribution to the CCAMLR Risk Assessment strategy in development by BAS. This feeds directly into BAS Ecosystems science that informs CCAMLR and the UK-FCO for management of the Antarctic marine ecosystem. They will analyse data from the South Orkneys and South Georgia feeding into krill distribution risk layers. They will work collaboratively with other members of the Ecosystem group

Qualification

PhD (or equivalent) in fisheries acoustics or numerate environmental or oceanographic science area

Duties

• Process and analyse acoustic data to derive krill density
• Model the distribution of krill density related to environmental parameters
• Write up analysis for peer-review and CCAMLR working groups
• Contribute and collaborate with other project members to deliver a risk assessment management strategy for the South Orkneys and South Georgia
• Any other tasks as identified by the PI and Director
