Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Working closely with the Yellowstone Program Manager, the Yellowstone Wildlife Fellow will lead the implementation of NPCA’s Yellowstone Pronghorn restoration program. The Fellow will partner with volunteers, local landowners, community members, agencies, other organizations and targeted constituencies to improve wildlife habitat for Yellowstone’s pronghorn through on the ground volunteer habitat restoration projects north of the park.

In the second year of the Yellowstone Pronghorn Project, a partnership with Nature Valley, the Wildlife Fellow will build on the successes of a very successful first year of the project, in which 5 volunteer projects were completed, engaging more than 60 volunteers while providing significant public profile for these efforts.

NPCA’s Yellowstone Wildlife Fellow will work with community partners on public and private land to remove or alter barriers to Yellowstone pronghorn migration. Working with landowners and land managers, NPCA volunteers will alter and/or remove fencing which prevents or hinders the seasonal migration of Yellowstone’s pronghorn. In so doing, the YFO Wildlife Fellow will build on the ground support for Yellowstone National Park wildlife by working with landowners in gateway communities and will build broader support for Yellowstone’s wildlife through innovative communication and outreach efforts.

The Wildlife Fellow will provide a significant community outreach and organizing function, conducting public presentations, organizing and hosting meetings with targeted constituencies and the broader public. Through this effort, the Fellow will continue to grow the base of new voices engaged in NPCA’s national park work. Finally, the Wildlife Fellow will keep NPCA’s membership updated and involved in this effort through our website, blogs and Twitter feeds, articles, the media and face to face meetings.
