Description

SSE is one of the largest and most diverse energy companies in the UK. We own the electricity transmission network and own and operate the distribution network across the North of Scotland, and are responsible for maintaining, repairing and upgrading these networks.

The Woodland Management Team is responsible for the clearance of all trees to facilitate the construction, implementation and maintenance of transmission lines and associated works. The work includes the felling/clearance of trees in the power line corridors along with additional tree cutting to form access tracks, line deviations and underground cabling.

 You will also be responsible for:  

     

  • Liaising with Environmental teams and landowners to programme works and agreeing mitigation measures, felling boundaries, landscape planting areas etc
  • Co-ordinating the setting out and installation of the mitigation measures to protect ecological sites, archaeological sites etc affected by tree cutting works 
  • Monitoring all aspects of the woodland works to ensure compliance with CDM regulations 
  • Setting out work to contractors 
  • Supervising and auditing works to ensure that all mitigation measures are being followed and quality of work is being maintained 
  • Co-ordinating timber removal from site including quality control

The successful candidate will:

  • Have strong communication skills 
  • Have a sound knowledge of the forest industry with particular emphasis on timber harvesting and contracting 
  • Have the ability and commitment to motivate and inspire others
  • Have a sympathetic and practical approach to the environment
  • Be computer literate. Confidence using MS word and MS excel and ArcGIS software would be an advantage
  • You must be adaptable, self motivated and flexible as you will be required to travel and work within the project area. A full driving licence is required.
