1Sky (www.1sky.org) is a powerful new campaign to build a movement at the scale of the climate challenge by communicating a pro-active vision, and advocating a clear, simple set of goals and policy initiatives. 1Sky was borne from the collective urgency and determination of a diverse group of leaders with many strengths, audiences, and organizing strategies and 1Sky aggregates that power. 1Sky is building a central staff in the DC area, and up to 50 organizers placed with partner organizations in target congressional districts around the country, to carry out our mission.

Clean Wisconisn is partnering with 1Sky to carry out this campaign. Clean Wisconsin is a leading environmental advocacy organization that protects Wisconsin's clean water and air and advocates for clean energy by being an effective voice in the state legislature and by holding elected officials accountable. Clean Wisconsin has made reducing the risk of global warming by stopping the construction of new coal plants, replacing old dirty coal plants and developing a new clean energy economy its highest organizational priority. Clean Wisconsin has played a leading environmental advocacy role in the Governor's Global Warming Task Force in Wisconsin as well as in the Midwestern Governor's Association's Greenhouse Gas Accord.

1Sky and Clean Wisconsin seek an organizer, based in the State of Wisconsin, who will coordinate the local grassroots efforts to engage and mobilize over 1 million people nationwide to advocate directly to their member of congress for the 1Sky solutions policy platform. The Organizer will work in coalition with a diverse set of concerned groups, businesses, individuals, and communities to demonstrate dramatic public support to address global warming at the scale of the problem. The organizer will report to local partner, Clean Wisconsin, and the 1Sky Field Director.

Internal RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working within the ethics of sustainability, leadership development, respect for local autonomy.
  • Reporting regularly to 1 Sky/Clean Wisconsin with written documentation of results.
  • Assist in developing quantitative reporting, tracking, accountability, evaluation and documentation structures for campaign.

External RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement 1Sky/Clean Wisconsin field and outreach strategies in target areas, including grassroots lobbying actions, candidate "bird-dogging," and voter registration, voter id, and GOTV.
  • Build coalitions among allies and nontraditional constituencies to grow broad community support for the 1Sky/Clean Wisconsin solutions package.
  • Help build, engage, and mobilize a network of over 1 million activists to advance 1Sky's national advocacy campaigns through local organizing efforts.
  • Generate local media coverage on behalf of 1Sky and Clean Wisconsin..
  • Coordinate local and regional activist skills trainings
  • Develop and execute direct actions in targeted areas to draw attention to the need for federal global warming action
  • Represent Clean Wisconsin and 1 Sky at conferences, trainings, workshops.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • 1-3 years organizing experience in electoral, issue and/or legislative campaigns.
  • Experience engaging and motivating large numbers of volunteers.
  • Experience working collaboratively with other organizations with diplomacy.
  • Can motivate anyone to do anything, in print, in person, and over the phone.
  • Enjoy working under pressure, under deadline, and can think quickly on your feet.
  • Work well independently, as part of a geographically dispersed team.
  • Familiarity with and understanding of climate and energy-related issues and advocacy ideal
  • Experience working with elected officials and/or lobbying
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel throughout the state

START DATE: ASAP

SALARY / BENEFITS: This full-time position is based in Wisconsin. It is a 1-year position, with possibility of extension. Competitive salary commensurate with experiece. Clean Wisconsin is an Equal Opportunity Employers.
