Winter Naturalists are hired for the ski season to lead naturalist-guided snowshoe and skiing tours and other interpretive winter programs. Since 1996 more than 90% of all Winter Naturalists first completed the Summer Naturalist Internship. While the majority of these positions are filled in-house, applicants whose background includes experience equivalent to the ACES' Summer Naturalist program will be considered. 

Responsibilities

  • Give onsite naturalist guided walks around Hallam Lake Nature Preserve.
  • Provide 2-hour naturalist guided snowshoe tours on Aspen Mountain and Snowmass Ski area.
  • Give 45-minute downhill ski tours from the top of Elk Camp Lift at Snowmass.
  • Care for resident birds of prey.
  • Develop and teach lessons for Winter Wild Things to ski school kids twice a week on Buttermilk and Snowmass.

Qualifications
Applicant must have an intermediate skiing ability and have experience in winter environments.
Educational background in the natural sciences, environmental education, or related field; interested and enthusiastic about environmental education; self-motivated with a sincere interest in the environment; experience working with the public. First Aid & CPR certification. 

Dates of Employment
Mid-November through mid-April


Compensation
Full-time winter naturalists work 5 days per week and receive $200/week, housing, full Aspen/Snowmass ski pass
Part-time winter naturalists work 2 days per week and receive housing (or $50/day) and a full Aspen/Snowmass ski pass
