The Company


First Wind is an independent wind energy company exclusively focused on the development, financing, construction, ownership and operation of utility-scale wind energy projects in the United States. Based in Boston, First Wind has developed and currently operates wind energy projects in the Northeast, the West and Hawaii.


Job Purpose


The Wind Turbine Engineer is responsible for evaluating and assisting with warranty related turbine performance on existing projects and compliance with contracts; compilation of documentation and stakeholder sign-off for new turbine procurement and operational agreements.


 


Additional responsibilities include ensuring that turbine contract conditions and operational arrangements are communicated to relevant First Wind Operations teams as projects transition from turbine procurement through delivery, installation, commissioning and initial operations.


 


The Wind Turbine Engineer will be required to participate in all Operations and vendor meetings, coordinate with vendors, and perform field inspection duties when required.   This position may be based in Boston or in one of the First Wind California office locations. 


Principal Responsibilities


  • Assemble and track warranty related turbine performance issues.
  • Responsible for engineering evaluation of operational data.
  • Manage engineering support for Root Cause Analysis, Availability Analysis, operational improvement projects.
  • Develop and maintain relationship with turbine vendors to keep current with changes in turbine technology and market pricing.
  • Assist local operations with the creation and administration of budgets related to turbine operations and maintenance.
  • Assist Finance, Development, Engineering and Construction departments with the creation and administration of budgets related to turbine procurement, delivery, installation, commissioning, operations and maintenance.
  • Coordinate / provide technical and familiarization training for company personnel within service territory to maintain / enhance technical skill sets of local operations.
  • Travel, including overnight, as required to sites and offices.









Qualifications


  • A minimum of a BS in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the design, configuration, installation, maintenance, procurement aspects of wind farms or other renewable energy projects.
  • Commercial and contract negotiation skills, evidenced by track record of closing contracts for supply of equipment, operation or maintenance service for wind turbines or similar equipmen.t
  • Travel, including overnight, as required, up to 15%.
  • Excellent interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changes in priority efficiently.
  • Excellent planning, time management and organization skills.
