AMEC Earth & Environmental is currently recruiting for a Wind Resource Assessment professional / Wind Modeler to be located in our St. John’s, NL office.  This individual will be part of a team being built to service the wind energy industry.  A large research and development project for wind energy lasting four years has been approved and will be kicking off this spring.  The new team will be part of a large atmospheric and marine services group that has been servicing Eastern Canada for two decades and will be able to leverage AMEC’s other numerous engineering and design projects in the wind energy industry.

Responsibilities:
This person will be responsible for implementing a high-resolution wind modeling system for wind farm output prediction.  AMEC currently operates The Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) model on a 30-node Linux cluster, but is open to alternative mesoscale wind modeling arrangements.  The qualified candidate will need to be able to install and operate mesoscale weather models and downscale to the micro scale level using statistical techniques.  They will need to be able to generate high quality wind resource maps, and be able to calculate energy output from wind farms.

Qualifications:
• At least five years experience servicing the wind energy industry
• Proven abilities in meteorological data analysis and statistics
• Experience with a variety of wind data collection platforms would be an asset

• Proven capabilities in mesoscale wind modeling and experience with wind farm design software such as WindFarm, WindPro, WaSP or equivalent
• Strong communication skills and ability to seek out new clients
• Degree in meteorology or atmospheric sciences is preferable
• Project management experience would be an asset
• Willingness to relocate

AMEC is committed to the principle of equal opportunity in employment.
