Travel Requirement: Travel approximately 3 days every 6 weeks.

Role Purpose

GL Garrad Hassan is the world's largest independent technical and engineering consultancy for renewable energy. We are the recognised global authority on onshore and offshore wind power and also serve the wave, tidal and solar sectors.

An opportunity exists in our Energy Group for a Wind Energy Analyst. The Wind Energy Analyst is based in our Ottawa North America office.

The primary focus of this role is assessing the wind resource and expected energy output of proposed utility-scale wind farms.

Conduct long-term wind resource and energy production assessments:

  • Analyzing wind and other climatic data;
  • Inspecting sites and measurement equipment;
  • Performing wind flow modeling; 
  • Assessing site conditions for turbine suitability; 
  • Predicting wind farm energy production;
  • Conducting statistical uncertainty analyses; and
  • Writing technical reports and communicating results to clients.

Person Specification

To be successful in this role, and our business, you will need to demonstrate the following qualification, professional expertise and personal attributes:

Technical / Professional Expertise

  • Comprehensive understanding of wind flow principles;
  • Aptitude in the statistical analysis of data;
  • Proficiency with GH WindFarmer and WAsP;
  • Understanding of wind energy industry measurement techniques and standards;
  • Thorough knowledge of various mapping tools and map formats; and
  • Degree in relevant engineering, atmospheric science, or mathematics field.

Competency Requirements

  • Proficiency with MS Office Word/Excel/Access; and
  • Strong overall computer skills and ability to learn multiple software tools.
