QUALIFICATIONS

In 2001, Wildlife Alliance launched the Wildlife Rapid Rescue Team (WRRT) to stop illegal shipments of wildlife on Cambodia's national roads and borders, and to arrest traffickers.  The WRRT is a team of Forestry Administration officials and Military Police committed to suppressing the illegal wildlife trade throughout Cambodia with support and assistance from Wildlife Alliance. To date, WRRT has rescued over 43,000 live animals and stopped 80% of restaurants in Phnom Penh from serving wildlife dishes.

We are looking for a project manager to lead and guide a team of 12 staff who has proven management and leadership skills; has experience in the field with law enforcement and investigation; is hard-working, diplomatic, well-organized with good attention to detail and follow-up.  The applicant should also have good reporting skills, excellent English skills, good intercultural skills and a passion for protecting wildlife and forests

Previous law enforcement or military experience an advantage.

DUTIES

A.         SPECIFIC DUTIES

 

  • Management of the WRRT
  • Management of the informants network
  • The careful handling of rescued and confiscated live wildlife
  • Managing the hotline to ensure quick response from WRRT to information received through the hotline or from informants.
  • Administration

Management of the WRRT and informants network

 The management of the WRRT and informants network includes:

  • Oversight of performance of WRRT members in office and on operations
  • Going on operations with WRRT, conduct briefing of the teams after every operation
  • Ensuring proper law enforcement, proper application of the law of WRRT members and follow-up of cases.
  • Ensuring quick and effective response once information is received so that informant information can lead to WRRT’s crackdown on illegal activities.
  • Providing ongoing training for WRRT members, monitoring strict adherence to Wildlife Alliance policies and operating procedures
  • Promote leadership among members of the WRRT
  • Conducting joint operations with other law enforcement teams
  • Continually improve and implement wildlife crime investigations
  • Collaborating, and maintaining good relations, with relevant government ministries and agencies, and other Wildlife Alliance offices to achieve WRRT’s goals and objectives.
  • Taking steps to further coordinate ASEAN-WEN in Cambodia. 

Management of the hotline

 

  • Answering the hotline phone at any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Transmitting detailed and relevant information to the WRRT Management Team or other law enforcement bodies and make sure the enforcement follows as rapidly and efficiently as possible.
  • Filling up relevant hotline reporting sheets.

 Administration

  • Reviewing counterpart officers’ reports and responsible for having them prepared in a correct and timely fashion
  • Overseeing inventory and maintenance of all WRRT equipment, allowing for regular inventory and maintenance checks and repairs on cars, motorbikes, radios, weapons, etc.
  • Ensuring that WRRT data sheets are filled in after each case
  • Ensuring the wildlife and traders database is regularly updated.  Analyze and compile data for reports as requested 
  • Completing reports according to the report templates for each operation: the operation case form and operation case photo templates and on a monthly basis: the WRRT monthly case template and relaying information to WRRT Management Team. 

 Perform other duties that may be assigned from time to time. 

Work location based in Phnom Penh and in the field as needed.

Competitive salary will be offered, depending on qualifications, level and years of experience.
