Overview

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity founded in 1826, is a world-renowned centre of excellence for conservation science and applied conservation. ZSL’s mission is to promote and achieve the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats. This is realised by carrying out field conservation and research in over 50 countries across the globe and through education and awareness-raising at our two zoos, ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, inspiring people to take conservation action.

Role Profile

The Institute of Zoology, the research arm of the Zoological Society of London, affiliated to University College London, invites applications for a Part-time Administrator.  ZSL is seeking an organised and flexible administrator who will provide support for the delivery of academic courses. Your key duties will be to assist the tutors in preparation and delivery of learning materials for the students, maintaining  our large alumni database and communicating with our alumni. You will have contact with both academics and students in your supporting role.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • compilation of learning materials
  • communication with alumni and maintenance of databases on their careers
  • supporting student facilities at ZSL
  • updating course related websites and databases
  • facilitation of feedback to and from students
  • assisting with organisation of events
  • assisting with any other tasks as may be required.

Person Specification

  • Have excellent organizational skills and experience and/or knowledge of using MS office packages or similar
  • Be educated to undergraduate degree level in a relevant subject (such as Biology, Zoology, Education) or equivalent qualification or equivalent level of work experience in a related field.
  • Have the ability to work unsupervised using your own initiative.
  • be able to develop good working relationships with colleagues at all levels
  • Have excellent written / oral communication skills and attention to detail.
  • A pro-active, flexible approach to your work

Please note: The post is a part-time, 3 day per week contract and the post-holder will be based at the Institute of Zoology in London. We would expect the successful candidate to be on site for 2 days a week and 1 day working from home and ideally candidates would work Monday-Wedneday.
