Dorset Wildlife Trust is offering an 8 month training placement through the Heritage Lottery funded Skills for the Future project.  The training programme is aimed at highly motivated individuals with an interest in nature and wildlife and an enthusiasm to gain the skills required for employment within the conservation sector.  

Post:  Wildlife Centre trainee

Location:  Mainly based at Kimmeridge marine centre, with additional involvement at Chesil Beach Centre and Lorton Meadows visitor centre.

Training focus:
• Visitor centre management
• Public engagement & communication skills
• Volunteer management
• Schools liaison and engaging with young people
• Ecology relevant to the sites
• Retail and customer care

Notes:    1.            This is an 8 month full time Training post, offered under the Heritage Lottery Skills for the Future programme.
                2.            The majority of the training will be delivered in-house, with occasional external courses.
                3.            This post is suited to an individual wishing to develop experience in visitor centre management.
                4.            A bursary payment of £750 pcm is payable for the duration of the training post.

Please note that there is no salaried position offered on completion of the programme.

No formal educational qualification or training is required but applicants must be able to demonstrate their potential and desire to learn new skills, work as part of a team and the personal commitment to complete a comprehensive 8 month training programme.

Priority in shortlisting applicants will be given to young people aged between 16 ­- 25 years and not in education training or employment, although applications are open to all.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on 28 March 2013

Interviews will be held in early April, with start date to be agreed with the succesful applicant.

The trainee will be expected to sign a Training Agreement prior to commencement of the programme
