Responsibilities:
Seeking an energetic, self-motivated, and resourceful wildlife biologist to join our team in Gillette, Wyoming. Primary duties will include project management related to planning, implementing, and personally conducting biological surveys (aerial and ground for big game, bald eagles, sage-grouse, sharp-tailed grouse, raptor nests, mountain plovers, prairie dog colonies, lagomorphs, and anurans) and habitat assessments, as well as client and resource agency coordination, and preparation of environmental documents (primarily, technical reports for BLM, WDEQ, USFS, and USFWS) for energy projects in the region. The peak field season (April through June) will require over 40 hours per week, including early mornings, some weekends, and in potentially unfavorable weather conditions. The position also requires supervision of biological technicians.
Requirements:
M.S. in wildlife biology or a closely related field, or a B.S. and at least 2 years of consulting experience. Also required is an overall dedication to excellence, integrity, and sense of pride in their work; strong writing, data management, and critical thinking skills; a demonstrated ability to work independently as well as some staff supervision experience; solid field skills including the ability to navigate using maps and GPS; and a working knowledge of ArcGIS. Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Access, Great Plains ecology and taxonomy, NEPA compliance, and prior consulting experience are preferred. A valid driver’s license and the ability to operate four-wheel drive trucks and ATVs are required.
