Allowances: 6 per cent unsocial hours premium
Hours: 35 per week (7 day roster)
 

The RSPCA, the World’s largest and oldest animal welfare organisation, is looking for a hard working and flexible Wildlife Assistant to join the team at our purpose-built Wildlife Centre.
 

East Winch Wildlife Centre has unique facilities for seals and we treat and rehabilitate sick and injured British wildlife to return to the wild. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with wildlife in all aspects of care, including first-aid, intensive care, fitness improvement, pre-release preparation and also post-release monitoring.
 

The main responsibilities of the post include:
 

• Admit, care for, prepare for release, release and monitor wildlife casualties according to the standard procedures and protocols of the Centre.
• Carry out all care and rehabilitation procedures, as defined in the centre protocols, for the benefit of injured wildlife.
• Where appropriately trained, to assist the Veterinary Officer in veterinary procedures including anaesthetics and surgical operations, as required, in the operating theatre.


The successful applicant should have:
 

• Good grounding in sciences at O-level and A-level or equivalent preferred
• Fieldwork skills such as identification of mammals and mammal tracks, bird identification
• Wild animal handling, assessment and first-aid skills
• Driving licence
• Good communication skills
• Experience of working in a Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, veterinary practice or animal care centre preferred
