Salary: £15,035 - £15,715 per annum

Allowances: 6% unsocial hours premium

Hours: 35 hours per week (7 day roster)

The RSPCA, the world’s largest and oldest animal welfare organisation, is looking for a Wildlife Assistant (Veterinary Nurse Qualified) to join the team at Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre, Nantwich, Cheshire, working for the rehabilitation of wild animal casualties and their integration back to the wild. This post involves shift work: 4 days on, 2 days off. Shifts consist of early shifts (8am - 4pm) and late shifts (1pm – 9pm).

The main responsibilities of the post include:

Admitting, caring for, preparing for release, releasing and monitoring wildlife casualties according to the standard procedures and protocols of the centre.

Carrying out euthanasia of wildlife casualties unable to be released, in line with RSPCA policies.

Accurately recording information and assisting in the collation of statistics.

Carrying out all care and rehabilitation procedures, as defined in the centre protocols, for the benefit of injured wildlife.

Ensuring medication prescribed by the veterinary office is correctly administered and to oversee the safe handling of drugs and accurate record keeping.

Intensive care nursing of cattery in-patients and administration of treatments.

The successful applicant should have:

• A Veterinary Nursing qualification
• Experience of working in a wildlife rehabilitation centre, veterinary practice or animal care centre essential
• Bird identification skills preferred
• Wild animal handling experience
• Good communication skills
• Driving licence
• Fieldwork skills such as identification of mammals and mammal tracks
