Wilderness & Recreation Inventory Technician

Description: In cooperation with the U.S. Forest Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, the Great Basin Institute is recruiting two (2) Wilderness & Recreation Inventory Technicians. The Technicians will play a key role in collecting data that will be utilized by the Forest in their efforts to meet the Chief’s 10 Year Wilderness Stewardship Challenge. Key standards will be monitored by the Technicians in four distinct Wilderness areas, including the Jarbidge, Santa Rosa, East Humboldt and Ruby Mountains wildernesses. These four Wilderness Areas all have partial recreation site inventories that have been compiled over the past few years. The Technicians will focus on finishing the recreation site inventories and pooling existing data for these areas, as well as put into practice good data management protocols. By the end of the season each area will have a completed recreation site inventory along with a plan for which sites to decommission and which sites to monitor. The Technicians will also complete invasive species monitoring and evaluate past treatments. Field hitches may last anywhere from 3 to 8 days at a time. The ideal candidate for this position will possess a demonstrated true love for wilderness, backcountry and a desire to spend time there.
