Description

Globally and nationally wildlife is in steep decline. We appear to be reaching critical tipping points around the loss of biodiversity as well as around climate change, both being interlinked. Human society cannot prosper without wildlife and healthy ecosystems.

Kent’s wildlife needs to be restored to much higher levels. We can no longer allow common things to become rare. We can only do this by restoring large-scale habitat from degraded land. Doing this will contribute to solving global problems. But we won’t be able to do this unless we publicly aspire to a higher level of impact and show that we can deliver this.

Kent Wildlife Trust are developing an emerging suite of Nature Based Solutions (NBS) programmes which aim to deliver investment for the restoration of nature at scale through Carbon, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and Nutrient Neutrality linked finance. We view this work as essential to both the delivery of a Wilder Kent, the Nature Recovery Network and government aspirations for 30% of land to be managed for nature.

The Job: Wilder Carbon is a national initiative led by Kent Wildlife Trust to finance habitat restoration and wilding projects through the sale of carbon credits to buyers who meet defined ethical criteria. The Wilder Solutions Officer will be responsible for developing and managing the Monitoring, Reporting and Verification component of Wilder Carbon, as well as assisting colleagues and external partners in developing Wilder Carbon projects. You will also work closely with others to deliver a range of income generating habitat restoration and consultancy projects focused on Carbon Sequestration, Biodiversity Net Gain and Nutrient Neutrality.

You: With demonstrable knowledge of the ecology of habitats and species in the UK, you will also have a good understanding of current policy and best practice for Nature Based Solutions, including Carbon Sequestration, Biodiversity Net Gain and Nutrient Neutrality.  Your excellent data analysis skills and familiarity of GIS software are a given; however, some experience in undertaking income generating consultancy work would be useful.
