Description

This exciting new paid internship opportunity will be based within the ZSL Commercial & Communications Department and the main role will be assist in the development and updating of content for the ZSL website and other ZSL digital channels. We are ideally looking for a candidate who is interested in pursuing a career in new media and would like to gain some experience in this field. The internship will provide the opportunity to gain experience in a globally respected conservation organisation and further skills in both media and conservation.

ZSL will provide internal training to enable the intern to gain a worthwhile internship and useful skills, knowledge and
experiences for their future career. The Website Content Intern will be offered regular supervision meetings with the Digital Communications Executive with support from the Digital Communications Manager.

Duties

  • Assist with sourcing, writing, editing and proof reading new online content and update existing content
  • Support the digital communications team
  • Liaising with ZSL staff within conservation, science and the living collections in order to ensure that their online communication goals are met  
  • Develop ideas and content for ZSL’s social media channels ie. Facebook & Twitter
  • Update the ZSL website on a regular basis – training will be given
  • Basic image manipulation – training will be given

Ideal skills, knowledge and experience (these will also be improved during the internship)

  • A good eye for a story and what makes interesting online content
  • Good writing skills
  • Methodical approach and an eye for detail
  • Ability to complete activities within an agreed time frame
  • Ability to operate under own initiative
  • An enthusiasm for the aims of the society
  • Knowledge of wildlife conservation and zoos
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to liaise with people from different backgrounds
  • Ability to implement creative ideas

The internship will be based at the offices in Regent’s Park and the hours will ideally be 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, although there can be flexibility to work around other commitments is necessary. The internship will ideally last between 3 and 6 months. We are offering the National Minimum Wage as payment for this internship.
