Have no doubt; Ontario’s commitment to the green economy has successfully created jobs.
Over 20 firms are currently manufacturing solar components in Ontario and 20 more have announced their intention to build facilities in the province, which is having a positive effect all the way up the supply chain, in areas such as hardware and metal products. There are also jobs in construction, installation, sales, and more.
From Windsor to Kingston, Sault Ste. Marie to St. Catherines, the entire province is benefiting from this clean energy boom. Check it out.
We’ve toured some of these plants and met with workers employed there, like John Mounfield, profiled here. John was unemployed for a year before getting his job at Silfab, a solar manufacturer in Mississauga.
Like John, the workers we’ve met are excited about their new careers. They talk about how their kids are proud of them, how they’re helping clean the environment, and making a decent living at the same time. The workers we’ve met understand that renewable energy is the future. And they are proof that we can create decent jobs and protect the environment.
These videos are part of an ongoing project. We’ll be collecting more stories and posting more videos in the months to come. And the jobs we’re talking about today, the jobs created to date, are only a fraction of the jobs we could create if we commit fully to the green economy, and think seriously about energy efficient buildings, green manufacturing, intelligent transportation networks, and better waste management practices.
