Scottish and Southern Energy is one of the largest and most diverse energy companies in the UK. We own and operate the electricity transmission and distribution networks across the North of Scotland, and are responsible for maintaining, repairing and updating these networks. 

As part of Scottish and Southern Energy, the Major Projects division is a focused delivery group that are delivering a wide range of construction projects within the UK. We currently have an opportunity for a Wayleave Officer to form part of a team delivering challenging and complex projects on the electricity network throughout the North of Scotland. 

 Duties will include:

  • Securing land owner consents for overhead and underground projects
  • Ensuring projects are carried out having identified all environmental constraints and secured the appropriate authorities consent
  • Purchase / lease land for operational purposes
  • Ascertain when building warrant or planning consent is required for all overhead, underground and substation projects and secure such consent
  • Preparation of consent documents
  • Resolve disputes over wayleave rights, landownership queries or tree cutting
  • Liaise with customers, land agents, legal representatives and SSE staff 

 

The sucessful candidate will have: 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Be highly motivated, organised and flexible, driven by successful project completion targets
  • An initial understanding of statutory and environmental constraints and a willingness to develop into being fully conversant with the relevant legislation
  • The ability to multi-task a number of projects at any one time and to work under pressure
  • Demonstrated project management skills with an ability to negotiate and manage wayleaves, actively maintaining excellent relationships with grantors, statutory and non statutory bodies 

 

 

The role involves substantial travel and there may be occasions where an overnight stay will be required. A full driving licence is required.

 

Successful candidates will be subject to the Company's verification and vetting process which includes a basic criminal record check.
