Ducks Unlimited’s Great Plains Regional Office in Bismarck seeks two waterfowl ecology interns to assist with nest searching at the Ducks Unlimited Coteau Ranch and the Nature Conservancy’s Davis Ranch in Sheridan County, North Dakota during May – July of 2016.

Major responsibilities will include waterfowl nest searching using an all-terrain vehicle chain drag technique, nest monitoring using miniature surveillance cameras, and assisting in behavioral analysis using the collected video data. The successful applicant will also play a large role in guiding students who are working at the Coteau Ranch on field research projects related to the nest cameras.  Consequently, previous experience with nest cameras, nest dragging, and behavioral analysis will be strongly preferred.  Interns will also play a role in guiding less-experienced peers who are working on field projects for school credit. Field work is physically and mentally demanding and takes place under challenging conditions. Therefore, only enthusiastic, dedicated individuals should apply. A strong interest in ecology, desire to spend long days in the field, and determination to get the job done well is required. Inquisitive, detail-oriented, and self-motivated applicants will be preferred. Successful applicants will be expected to work effectively with and without direct supervision.

These internship positions will provide students with an opportunity to gain field experience and continue developing a competitive skill set. Interns will work closely in the field with Ducks Unlimited Biologists and/or University of North Dakota faculty/grad students. The successful applicant will be paid $1800/month and housing will be provided in Goodrich, ND.
