Job Title:        Water for Wildlife Project Officer (maternity cover)

Fixed Term Maternity Cover for an initial 6 month period, part-time 30 hours per week

Closing Date: Mid-day on Wednesday, 1st October

Interview Date:          Tuesday, 7th October

Salary Range:             £25,701 pro rata

Based at Tyland Barn, Maidstone

The Job:  Kent Wildlife Trust has successfully secured funding from the SITA Trust to deliver a project to protect water voles in the North Kent Marshes. We are working together with key stakeholders and landowners to survey and monitor water vole populations, control the American mink and establish habitat restoration across a wide area of the North Kent Marshes.

The purpose of this post is to continue the work of this innovative project in undertaking surveys for water vole, monitoring established mink rafts, coordinating with partners and landowners and undertaking all necessary reporting to SITA Trust and others including Kent & Medway Biological Records Centre. You will also play a role alongside other staff in representing and leading the work of KWT as part of the Kent Catchment Partnerships.

You:  Essentially, the ideal candidate will have;

  • A sound understanding of wetland ecology and conservation, and of the key factors affecting wetland biodiversity.
  • At least two years’ experience of employment in nature conservation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven record of engaging individuals and organisations in nature conservation work.
  • An understanding of the legal and policy framework which underpins the management of wetland systems.
  • An understanding of current nature conservation policy and thinking, and the principles of landscape ecology.
  • Experience of working with farmers and land-owners to deliver wetland habitat restoration, including through HLS agreements.
