Background:

Melton Borough Council is a Rural District Council in Leicestershire, in the Heart of the East Midlands. It has very good road and rail links to Nottingham, Leicester and Derby. It has in excess of 200 employees and delivers a range of public services you would expect from a public sector organisation of this size. We have currently reviewed the way we deliver Social and Economic services and introduced innovative and modern processes. This generates an exciting and vibrant workplace.

Objective:

Melton Borough Council have been successful in gaining funding from ValPak and the Environment Agency to promote the reduction of food waste in the borough and engage the community with any tools and methods that can help to achieve this. The ‘Eat well, waste less’ project will be a fantastic opportunity to educate and enthuse families and individuals through workshops, demonstrations and talks in the area and subsequently reduce the amount of food waste created with creative and exciting tips and recipes to use up leftover food and store it better. The project will also seek to bring together the community through these events and promote community cohesiveness.
