Northamptonshire has a population of around 685,000 who live in an area of over 914 square miles, and who produce almost 400,000 tonnes of municipal waste per year.

Northamptonshire County Council’s Waste Management Service activities are wide and varied and includes the delivery of services required to fulfil it’s statutory function as a Waste Disposal Authority (WDA) as defined within the Environmental Protection Act (EPA) 1990.
We are seeking a highly motivated and organised person to join our Waste Operations section within the waste management team.  The role will assist primarily with the management of our Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC) service but may also involve assisting with other operational areas such as waste treatment/disposal contracts, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and liaison with our seven district and borough councils who deliver waste collection services throughout the county.
Northamptonshire has ten HWRCs spread across the county.  The HWRCs provide services for both householders and small businesses.  The centres manage a wide range of waste types ranging from items that are sent for reuse at the off-site reuse shops, recyclables such as paper, glass, metals and WEEE, hazardous waste items such as waste oil, fluorescent tubes and waste sent for disposal or treatment such as wood and residual waste.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain first-hand experience in a growing field that is key for the future delivery of sustainable development.
