Description

Project: ¡Cuidamos nuestro medio ambiente!

The project ¡Cuidamos nuestro medio ambiente! or Let’s take care of our environment! aims to raise the awareness of primary and high school students, as well as the rest of the population of a community, on the environment. The level of knowledge of youth in Peru on environmental themes such as climate change, deforestation, and pollution is very low. This is the case as in the large majority of schools no environmental education is provided.

As a volunteer or intern, you stay for several months in one of the communities we work with and organize an integral environmental program. You give classes in the primary and high schools on issues such as pollution, solid waste and recycling, biodiversity and conservation, natural resources, and climate change. In addition, you organize workshops for parents, government officials and others interested in learning more about the environment. For the classes and workshops the volunteers you use the materials we have developed, and try to incorporate local circumstances.

In coordination with the municipal government and the directors and teacher of the schools you work with, you also organize practical activities with the students in the community, such as planting and adopting trees, cleaning the streets or the riverbank and recycling the waste they collect, hanging posters in town made by the students, or organizing an “environmental march” through the town center. These activities help the students to better understand what they learn in the classrooms, and create good visibility of the project in the entire municipality.

-         Enrolled in or completed a relevant study or a strong motivation to learn about environmental issues
