Main Purpose of Position
To assist EIA's Forest Campaign team with a research project relating to the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) initiative.
The role will entail undertaking targeted research and producing reports for internal circulation. The successful candidate will liaise with campaigners and help develop the focus of the project as it progresses.
The right candidate will gain a good understanding of the work of a successful campaigning organisation. He or she will develop research skills within a professional setting and play an important role in supporting the broader work of the team.
The role will initially be based in our offices in Upper Street, but further research can also be undertaken from home. The initial period may be extended based on the outcome of the research.
Skills required
•Accuracy, thoroughness and persistence are key qualities required for this position. The successful candidate will be able to use his or her initiative to systematically pursue new angles as they emerge.
•Some experience of research, either in an academic or professional capacity, is necessary. The successful candidate will have some experience of producing reports.
•Candidates should be able to demonstrate a commitment to environmental issues. They will have an understanding of the climate change agenda and how it is influencing international policies relating to tropical rainforests.
In particular, candidates should have a good working knowledge of the REDD+ initiative, the current status of its development and the key issues it involves.
