The position will be as a research assistant in Loango National Park, Gabon. We initiated a project to habituate western gorillas and chimpanzees in Loango in January 2005. The position will begin April 2009, for a one year period. The assistant tasks will include: assisting in habituation of the gorillas and chimpanzees which requires long hours in the forest and a great deal of patience. Other tasks include data entry, and possible assistance with other projects including phenology, vegetations surveys, and ape surveys. Loango National Park is located on the coast of Gabon and consists of several ecosystems including coastal forest and swamps. The living conditions at this project are basic.
