Description

This project works protect a unique mangrove ecosystem and helps the local community develop alternative sources of income to reduce human pressures on the forest.

Volunteer activities follow a daily ecosystem monitoring protocol, comprised of a range of basic forest survey techniques (transects, tree measurements, root structure analysis, sediment analysis, etc). Volunteers will be trained on site in these techniques and the basics of mangrove ecology.

The mangrove ecosystem monitoring program hopes to develop budding conservation professionals by providing essential field research experience and a great opportunity to see conservation in practice in the developing world.

This is a great opportunity for anyone looking for field experience, doing a gap year or semester abroad, or looking to enter the field of conservation or ecology.

The project costs £290 per month which includes accommodation (near the edge of the mangrove), all meals, pick-up and drop-off, filtered water, plus a small contribution to help cover the running costs of the project.
