Description

Cambodia supports a rich variety of wildlife and habitats, including Asian elephants, Siamese crocodiles, giant ibises, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and exceptionally pristine rainforests. FFI has been working to support biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in Cambodia since 1996, and runs a wide range of projects in collaboration with the Government of Cambodia, national organisations and local communities.

The University Capacity Building Project is one of FFI’s flagship projects in Cambodia. Following decades of under-investment in the education sector, conservation is severely hampered by a shortage of trained conservationists and reliable biodiversity data. FFI is therefore working with the Centre for Biodiversity Conservation (CBC) at the Royal University of Phnom Penh to arm a new generation of Cambodian scientists with essential skills, knowledge and experience in conservation biology and sustainable development. We are undertaking activities in four areas:

  • Delivery of a 2-year MSc course in Biodiversity Conservation
  • Development of original lines of conservation-orientated research
  • Publication of the Cambodian Journal of Natural History (CJNH)
  • Development of zoological and botanical reference collections

FFI is seeking a talented and enthusiastic volunteer to assist with conservation education and research in Cambodia.  To achieve the aims of the Masters and research programmes, we are looking for a volunteer to commit ideally to a minimum of six months in Cambodia, starting 15th August 2011.
