Description

This project is run by a leading NGO on research and conservation of marine mammals, mainly humpback whales. The NGO offers two exceptional ways to help out during the humpback whale season: Eco Guides and Scientific Eco Guides. The activities and responsibilities of Eco Guides include: giving briefings before trips; providing information on marine mammal behaviour; ensuring that the code of approach is respected; de-briefings after the trips. The activities and responsibilities of Scientific Eco Guides include all the activities mentioned above plus: gathering scientific information; entering information in the database (daily); creating a weekly report of activities; preparing PowerPoint presentations about different topics and about results. The Scientific Eco Guide should be a student or professional in marine science and/or conservation, environmental studies or related.

Participants pay £185 or £300 (dependent on position) for a 5-9 day certification (training) course and equipment in order to take part in the project. The fee also covers accommodation, food, and boat trips during the training period. Once certified there will be no other costs as the host will cover board and lodging, local boat and terrestrial transport.

If you have any questions or want to apply, log-in to the V4A database (membership required), and then contact host organization directly.
