Volunteers are needed at a nature reserve in the Wellington region of New Zealand. About the project This project is a registered charity which protects a native forest block (approximately 14 hectares / 35 acres) in the Wellington region of New Zealand’s North Island. The reserve is home to a number of endemic New Zealand wildlife including kiwi birds, tuatara (an endemic reptile), parrots, and waterfowl. The reserve is also an advocate for conservation and environmental protection through public education and by offering educational visits by schools and other groups. About the opportunity The project suits candidates with an passion in conservation or the environment. You will be assisting with worthwhile nature conservation activities which include animal feeding (birds, reptiles, and eels), helping with school groups & educational talks, enclosure care, maintaining park facilities, and tree planting. Prior experience is not required, but you must be at least 18 years of age, understand spoken and written English, have no major health conditions that would affect your participation, and be willing to participate whatever the weather (rain or shine). A commitment of at least one week is required, although longer placements (up to four weeks) are available. Start dates are flexible and available throughout the year. Candidates are required to cover the costs of their travel and placement.
