Volunteer at Amazon Animal Rescue Center

Pilpintuwasi is looking for volunteers to aid us both in our animal rescue program and in our butterfly house.

Pilpituwasi is an animal rescue center located 20 minutes outside of Iquitos, Peru in the Amazon jungle. We work with the ecological police in Iquitos to look after animals confiscated from the black market- an industry still thriving in our city.

In our facility, you would have the opportunity to work with unique Amazon species such as coati, capybara, ocelot, jaguar, and many species of monkeys. Volunteers are especially needed to help with animal enrichment programs. You would also lead tours of the facility in English and any other languages you speak.

In the butterfly house, you will help to breed 25 species of butterflies from egg to butterfly, plus maintain our butterfly house and the associated host plants.

We do not charge volunteers, but you will be responsible for looking after your accommodation and food in Padre Cocha, the village in which the center is located. Several low cost options are available, depending on your preferences.

Specially desired qualities:  animal experience, Spanish language ability, construction experience

All volunteers are required to stay a minimum of 3 weeks.
