Description

Opportunity Overview:

The Institute of Zoology, the research arm of the Zoological Society of London, affiliated to University College London, invites applications for an intern.  The volunteer will join a team running a field course entitled Interventions in Wild Animal Health in India in 2016, in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh and the Wildlife Institute of India.

Experience in wild animal health or biology is essential.  Candidates should ideally have outstanding attention to detail, creativity and excellent communication and information technology skills, and an undergraduate or Masters level degree in biology, health, conservation, technology, or education.

The volunteering opportunity is available from August 2015 and is for 6 months in the first instance. The role is ideally three to four days per week and is based within ZSL’s Institute of Zoology in Regent’s Park, London. Candidates should ideally live within easy daily reach of ZSL Institute of Zoology. All applicants must be able to show that they have permission to work in the UK.

Please note that this is a voluntary position. However, ZSL will reimburse travel costs from within the Greater London area (up to the equivalent of a weekly zone 1-6 travel card) and up to £5 per volunteering day for lunch.

In this role, the voluntary intern will benefit from:

  • Experience with the mechanics of creating field course teaching materials
  • Experience in researching wild animal health-related content in video
  • Experience of how a conservation NGO operates
  • Interaction with staff and students in IoZ, Conservation Programmes, Discovery & Learning, and Living Collections
  • Potential for interaction with project partners (University of Edinburgh, Wildlife Institute of India)

To Apply:

Please complete the ZSL Volunteer and Volunteer Intern Application Form and forward the contact details of two referees to Human Resources (hr@zsl.org). We regret that we will only be able to contact applicants who have been selected for interview.

The closing date for applications: Monday 20th July 2015.
