Summary Description

Backcountry Information Specialists provide a positive first impression and top quality public service in fulfilling the needs of visitors and guests to this AMC Destination. This includes providing accurate backcountry information, outdoor knowledge, backcountry skills, and assisting in search and rescue operations.  Information staff also sell basic backcountry equipment, souvenirs, and supplies.  Working in coordination with other AMC departments is essential to the success of this position.

AMC facilities are critical providers of safety, education, outdoor recreation and conservation services to tens of thousands of hikers annually. Operated on public land, these facilities need to work in close partnership with the United States Forest Service and other state and local authorities to provide the highest level of service. All Visitor Information Service staff must work closely with other AMC staff and volunteers to ensure this end.
