Position
Reporting to NPCA’s Executive Vice-President and acting as member of the executive leadership team, the incumbent leads the CPM team to continue to build on our partnership with the National Park Service (NPS).
 
The successful individual leads NPCA’s efforts to further grow, direct and maintain a collaborative partnership with the leaders of the National Park Service to build system-wide leadership and management capacity. The job entails leading the geographically dispersed CPM team in setting the direction for the group, oversight of project development and execution, and leading fundraising activities. As a member of NPCA’s executive team, the incumbent is involved in developing and implementing the strategic direction of the organization and serves as the primary CPM relationship manager with the NPCA Board. 
 
Essential Functions                                                                                                             
CPM Leadership  
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary, geographically dispersed team, working comfortably with the team in a highly empowered, collaborative style. 
  • Nurture close working relationships with senior staff within NPS, building trust and leveraging relationships to continue to develop a mutually aligned partnership.
  • Deliver clear and successful coordination across department lines on a shared but complex set of interrelated objectives. 
  • Through a results-orientated approach to their work in a dynamic environment, meet strategic goals, budget targets and annual performance metrics.
  • Build productive relationships with the NPCA Board and the CPM Advisory Committee of the Board.  
  • Ensure professional development opportunities are available to retain CPM staff.

NPCA Leadership & Management

  • As a member of the NPCA executive team, work with colleagues to set and implement the strategic plan of NPCA- leading specific initiatives and advising on other campaigns and initiatives as appropriate.
  • Serve as a coach and advisor to teams within NPCA that are tasked with implementing the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Develop effective working relationships with other VP’s, the Executive VP and the President to effectively lead NPCA; build understanding of CPM’s work within the organization; and seek opportunities to leverage CPM’s skill set to advance the management capacity of the organization.

Funding/Grant Oversight

  • Major responsibility for fundraising- serving as the lead fundraiser for CPM, and supporting NPCA’s overall fundraising strategy.
  • Build and maintain successful relationships with key current and potential donors- including individuals, foundations and corporations.
  • Maintain focus on driving grant management rigor for all CPM funds.
 
CPM Management    
  • Oversee CPM’s Senior Leadership Team in the development and implementation of CPM’s strategic direction. 
  • Ensure CPM direction and activities effectively support the strategic plan for NPCA.
  • Manage CPM project design and mix to deliver solutions that are systemic in scope, deliver measurable, meaningful improvement to NPS and can be replicated system-wide.
                                                                                                                                                               
Desired Background and Personal Attributes
  • Masters degree or equivalent experience preferred. 
  • The successful candidate will possess 8+ years of senior-level experience in a consulting environment, designing and managing organizational change and leader development transformation.
  • Successful experience stewarding, cultivating and soliciting foundations and individual funders.
  • A management and leadership style that is collaborative and empowering. 
  • Proven ability to think strategically, tactically and innovatively.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including listening, tact and diplomacy.
  • The ability to quickly assimilate a deep working knowledge and understanding of the federal management process, from the perspectives of a federal agency and from Congress. 
  • Proven successful record of positive client relationship management. Knowledge of the National Park Service or similar land management entities is helpful but not required. 
  • Promotes policies that are sensitive to the needs of a diverse workforce. 
  • Respect employees regardless of their position or background.
  • Ability and willingness to travel (40%+) to build and maintain NPS, donor and NPCA relationships.

Compensation for the Vice-President, CPM includes a competitive base salary commensurate with experience and an excellent package of employee and health benefits.
