Description

Vice President, Conservation and Education

Vancouver Aquarium

Vancouver, British Columbia

From its opening in 1956, the Vancouver Aquarium has become a global leader in connecting people to the natural world and is Vancouver’s single largest visitor attraction.  With a diverse and passionate member community of over 70,000 (23,000 households) strong, over 1,200 volunteers, approximately 400 employees and a $28 million operating budget, the Vancouver Aquarium is the largest in Canada and has achieved international recognition for its growing role as a communications hub, its public programs and leading edge scientific research and a growing set of conservation initiatives.

The Aquarium is now in the midst of an exciting $80 million capital program to expand its physical facilities in Stanley Park, as well as its work to “effect the conservation of aquatic life” – the Aquarium’s mission.  The Aquarium has founded and is managing a growing number of efforts to engage people in new ways – all directed toward helping them be part of the environmental solution.

The opportunity now exists for an exceptional leader to join the Executive Team with responsibility for inspiring and managing the Aquarium’s Conservation & Education Group and the pursuit of their strategic goals and initiatives organization-wide.  As a key member of the Executive Management team, the VP will be responsible for all aspects of conservation knowledge including the organization’s strategic communication of the conservation messages to all audiences; public engagement programs; and volunteer services – all with the goal of supporting the organization’s mission and vision.

The successful candidate will bring general management experience in a multi disciplinary environment with a focus on public engagement and education. Above all, he or she will be a confident, inspirational and collaborative leader with the ability to instil a passion for the mission of the organization in others within the Conservation and Education Group, and across the organization.  With a strong focus on results, achievement, and accountability, the new VP will have an opportunity to provide leadership to a growing world-class organization, in a critical portfolio, while living in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
