Position: Veterinary Department Administrator (Full-Time / Permanent)

Salary: £26,272 (Inclusive of London Weighting)

Overview of Role: 

ZSL is currently looking for a Veterinary Department Administrator to facilitate, through the daily co-ordination of the clinical and pathological teams, the smooth running of the Veterinary Department and its research, education and conservation activities.

Main duties of the role will include: 

  • Administrative tasks (such as maintaining the filing systems) for the Veterinary Department, primarily at London Zoo, with regular visits to Whipsnade Zoo to help achieve the department’s strategic aims.
  • Organise meetings, drawing up and issuing papers in consultation with the Head of Veterinary Services and minute taking as appropriate.
  • Co-ordinate all legislative requirements within the department, including; Zoo Licensing Act and Veterinary Medicines Directorate policy, professional memberships and CPD, COSHH, risk assessments).
  • Support all students including; EMS, Trackers, Residents, VN Interns and Work Experience, visiting researchers).
  • Organise rotas to provide continuous clinical cover at both zoos.
  • Assist with travel and CPD arrangements for department members.
  • Maintain and update webpages for the department.
  • Support the department in the maintenance and purchase of various equipment, drugs and disposables to enhance capacity, including the drafting of CIAP papers
  • Provide cross-directorate support to/deputise for other Zoological administrators in their absence, in order to maintain continuity as appropriate.

The ideal candidate will: 

  • Have prior experience in administrative capacity and be comfortable completing a range of tasks.
  • Be able to work independently and intensively, managing a busy work schedule.
  • Be able to produce succinct and timely reports.
  • Demonstrate professionalism towards sensitive and confidential information.
  • Have a proven track record of working effectively within a team (Essential).
  • Have excellent numerical, written communication and computer skills.
  • Be able to remain flexible according to changing situations.
