POSITION SUMMARY

The Nature Conservancy in Arizona seeks a Verde River Agricultural Project Coordinator to support the Conservancy’s ongoing work with the agricultural community to implement innovative strategies that encourage responsible water stewardship. This position would focus on developing, managing, and advancing infrastructure projects with agricultural partners within the Verde Valley that conserve water and/or enhance flows in the river. This position is a three-year term position, and is anticipated to end at the conclusion of this period unless extended.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This position provides outreach, planning, and project management and implementation support for water infrastructure projects in the Verde Valley. S/he manages landowner relations, collaborates with a broad array of partners to build community support, implements project plans, and manages budgets. S/he will be expected to manage multiple projects to completion, meet deadlines, and manage budgets.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with agricultural water users and land owners in the Verde Valley to enable the implementation of priority infrastructure projects.
  • Financial responsibility includes working within/managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, assisting with budget development.
  • Networks with diverse groups, including conservation partners, government officials, donors, board members and the general public to recruit support for the Conservancy.
  • Works under minimal and distant supervision; must make independent decisions based on experience and judgments.
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
  • Ensure contracts are executed and paid in a timely manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience in natural resource management, or project management, or engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing budgets, deadlines and deliverables for projects.
  • Experience using common software applications such as Word, Excel, web browsers, etc.
  • Experience in training and curriculum design.
  • Must have valid driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years’ experience in natural resource management or project management, or engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability and willingness to apply science to decision-making and guide activities.
  • Relationship building skills to work closely a variety of partners, i.e., media, government officials, contracting engineers.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems and other agricultural operations.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management and natural resource preservation.
  • Completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
