Description |
Organisation OverviewBlue Ventures is an award-winning marine conservation organisation working to rebuild tropical fisheries with coastal communities. We’re committed to protecting marine biodiversity in ways that benefit coastal people. We work in places where the ocean is vital to local cultures and economies, and where there is a fundamental unmet need to support human development. Summary Job DescriptionBlue Ventures is seeking an experienced specialist to carry out a Value Chain Analysis (VCA) of the Mahajamba Bay mud crab and shrimp fisheries. The objective of the VCA will be to identify and articulate key interventions for improving the livelihoods of small-scale crab and shrimp fishers, and driving sustainable management. The outputs of the VCA will form an essential part of Blue Ventures’ efforts to put in place effective community-based fisheries management in Mahajamba Bay and a long-term Fisheries Improvement Plan. The specialist will use a data-driven value chain approach to evaluate the fisheries at the scale of the whole bay. In the first part of the VCA, key informant interviews and review of the literature would be used to delineate the value chains; in the second part, quantitative questionnaires and field visits would be used to fully define the current value chain. Key information and data needs would be: 1. Resource: stock health, landings volume and value; 2. Harvesters: number of fishers, capacity, landings volume and value by gear type, and fisher-buyer credit relations; 3. Shoreside Services: availability, condition, and control; 4. Processing and Distribution: number and location of processors, logistical infrastructure, and number of product lines; 5. Sales Outlet: product preparation; 6. End Market: Product preparation, and export volumes and values. Application ProcessApplicants should apply using the online form via the Blue Ventures website, by 17th August 2017. Technical offers must not exceed 10 pages in length and must contain the following:
