Description

The student will be part of a friendly team of six responsible for the production and analysis of electricity, gas and coal statistics. These statistics are published or supplied to other national or international organisations. Figures produced by the section are also used extensively for briefing Ministers, policy and answering questions raised within the department and by the general public.

The work required will include:

  • Actively involved in production of annual and quarterly publications, which entails management of data collection from major energy companies, investigating data quality issues, data analysis and presentation and etc.
  • Assist in producing regular policy briefing material for coal statistics
  • Be responsible for making regular data deliveries to national and international organisations
  • Assisting with response to ad–hoc queries from various government departments, parliament and the general public
  • Organisation of student recruitment procedure for the following academic year
  • Assisting other colleagues in the Energy statistics team with various ad–hoc tasks are likely to feature highly in the post

The student will expand knowledge of the energy industry through desk training and attendance to Energy School seminars with a possibility of getting a 1 level certificate in ‘Energy and Climate Change’. At the end of the year student will become and advanced user of Excel and Word due to everyday work and training provided. Successful applicant will improve team working, time management, communication, IT skills and get an exposure to the different areas of policy making process within the Department.
