Description

The Utility Project Engineer (pre-sales) is responsible for being the technical lead regarding engineering design and due diligence for Utility solar PV power plants during the front end bid stage of a project.  This will include crossing over to support both the sales pipeline of potential projects, working with the sales and estimating teams, as well as collaborating with the engineering team, project management team, and construction teams on projects we are implementing.  The Utility Project Engineer is responsible for delivering optimized equipment specifications, concept design drawings, site feasibility evaluations, interconnection and single line drawings and other technical information needed to support the utility sales team. Travel to site visits and bid meetings will be required as needed per project. 

Responsibilities:

  • Support sales and estimating teams for bidding all technical portions of the project. Utility projects are primarily ground mount direct utility intertied systems;
  • Support Sales team in presentations to customers;
  • Visiting customer sites and attend bid meetings to perform evaluations and preliminary design for proposals;
  • Perform technical due diligence for RFP’s. Evaluate key requirements and work the Sales team to provide the most appropriate solution;
  • Complete preliminary system designs, and engineering specifications;
  • Understand plant performance ratio issues and performance testing requirements;
  • Drafting and revising utility technical specification documents;
  • Interface with utilities for system connection design, as well as coordination of interconnection studies;
  • Creation of bill of materials for system;
  • Creation of spare parts list for system;
  • Interpretation of code requirements;
  • Coordinate answering of technical questions with other engineering disciplines as needed;
  • Interfacing with local building officials as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering; (Electrical Engineer is preferred)
  • 5+ years with a combination of design of industrial power systems, utility power systems, or other medium voltage power systems with demonstrated experience specific to utility scale solar projects
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred
  • Ability to interpret construction documents.
  • NEC Electrical code knowledge.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated AutoCAD and drafting experience required
  • Strong computer skills required; MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and other engineering software
  • Professional appearance and client interaction
  • Motivated team player, looking to succeed
  • Willing to travel if necessary
  • Innovative and proactive.

Essential Functions:

Position will be required to travel regularly, both via air and car.  Usage of standard office equiment.   EEO
