“ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability” is an association of over 1200 metropolises, cities, towns, counties and urban regions in 70 countries. ICLEI helps cities prepare for the future through sustainable urban development, eco-efficiency, climate- and disaster-resilience, and a green urban economy. ICLEI works on a non-for-profit basis through a World Secretariat in Bonn/Germany and 11 regional secretariats and country offices on all continents.

 

ICLEI promotes eco-efficient and resilient urban infrastructure with an emphasis on sustainable transport (both EcoMobility and EcoLogistics). We manage the EcoMobility Alliance and organize the EcoMobility world congress. We partner with businesses to identify innovative solutions.

 

We are seeking a highly motivated, pro-active and experienced candidate for the position of

 

Urban Sustainable Transport / EcoMobility Project Officer

 

The position is attractive for young professionals who wish to grow with the job – and develop a team.

Responsibilities:

-          Coordinate major multi-partner projects on sustainable urban infrastructure, especially on sustainable transport / EcoMobility

-          Develop projects, training modules and contribute to knowledge management on sustainable urban infrastructure to support local governments in the transformation towards low carbon cities

-          Enlarge the EcoMobility Alliance as a global network of cities and partners

-          Develop and coordinate the program of the EcoMobility congress

-          Position EcoMobility in the international discussion on sustainable urban development, especially in the climate change debate; address international policy fora, meetings and events

-          Produce newsletter, fact sheets, reports, media releases; edit website

Requirements

-          University degree or equivalent qualification in Urban Transport, Urban Planning, Urban Infrastructure, Civil Engineering, or similar

-          3-5 years of working experience related to urban infrastructure

-          Knowledge of current policies, planning concepts and state of the art in low-carbon, resilient urban sustainable transport

-          Experience in project acquisition and development, preparation of funding proposals, project coordination (including project budget responsibility)

The successful candidate:

-          is dedicated to driving innovative, low-carbon, resilient, resource-efficient, future-oriented urban infrastructure solutions

-          shows enthusiasm for EcoMobility urban transport solutions, especially non-motorized transport (walking, cycling, wheeling), light electric vehicles and public transport

-          is pro-active with an organized working style and strong organizing and project coordination skills

-          shows creativity and excellence in communicating ICLEI’s message to public policy makers planners, business partners, investors and the broader public

-          is proficient in oral and written English; further languages are an asset

-          is proficient in office and presentation software and experience in, or open to learn using, web content management (Typo3)

Terms and conditions

-          Full-time position available from September 2011

-          Position based in Bonn/Germany. International travel will be required. Communication with partners around the world may require work outside of normal office hours.

-          The title is “Project Officer” and the salary will reflect qualifications and experience.

-          The Urban Sustainable Transport / EcoMobility Project Officer reports to the Director of ICLEI’s Capacity Center.
