Description

Upper Ray Warden

Salary: £20,976

35 hours / week

2.5 year fixed term contract

Based at Meadow Farm, near Bicester

The Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust is a membership-based voluntary organisation, managing over 80 nature reserves, influencing land management and educating and encouraging all sectors of the community to care for local wildlife.

The Upper River Ray, on the Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire border, is one of the last remaining strongholds of traditional floodplain meadows in England.  As well as supporting a rich floral community associated with lowland hay meadows, the area also supports a small breeding population of locally scarce wading birds. The Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust is now recruiting for an Upper ray Warden funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), to provide practical support for our work across the project area.

The post-holder will deliver all aspects of practical management of Meadow Farm and the Upper Ray Reserves (170 hectares) in line with the HLF awarded grant and timetable.

They will ensure work with the Reserves Manager to purchase new conservation machinery and equipment and work with the Community and Education Officer to develop specific conservation projects at Meadow Farm.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate a minimum of 2 years’ experience in applied nature conservation management.  They should have a sound working knowledge of ecological principles and habitat management and assessment for a range of habitat types and especially meadow and wetland habitats.

For full details on how to apply for the post, please visit our website www.bbowt.org.uk, email: jobs@bbowt.org.uk or phone 01865 775476.

CVs will not be accepted. Please note that only successful applicants will be notified. The closing date for applications is 9am on Monday 10th March 2014.

Interviews will be held at Meadow Farm, nr Bicester on Wednesday 19th March 2014.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
