Description

UKELA Wales Co-ordinator

The UK Environmental Law Association is recruiting a co-ordinator for its work in Wales. Its overall aim is to make the law work for a better environment.

Job description

The role is two days a week for two years and is funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. The co-ordinator will be a member of the UKELA staff team (currently three, all part-time and home-based), reporting to the Executive Director, and will work alongside UKELA’s active volunteers. The role focuses on influencing Government as it develops new environmental legislation, developing UKELA’s membership in Wales and providing information about environmental law both at events and online.

We are aiming for three outcomes from this time-limited role:

1. UKELA will have actively contributed towards and influenced the development of new environmental law and policy in Wales such that new legislation is coherent, consistent, integrated, transparent and accessible and achieves positive outcomes for the environment.

2. Environmental law practitioners and members of the public in Wales will have access to information, training and networks, enabling them to be better informed about environmental responsibilities and rights.

3. UKELA’s Welsh network will have developed and strengthened, with a strong, multi-disciplinary membership, proactive supporters and the capacity to continue to develop and deliver its work without the need for ongoing coordination.

Principal accountabilities:

· Support the Wales Working Party to engage effectively with Welsh Government consultations (and consultations affecting Wales);

· Track key Welsh Government initiatives and advise the Working Party of key opportunities for influence;

· Ensure sharing of expertise across all the working parties (so that, for example, the Nature Conservation Working Party is fully engaged in helping relevant responses in Wales);

· Supporting working party events by advising on and finding speakers and other key participants to raise awareness and understanding of Environmental law in Wales;

· Researching opportunities for membership recruitment, holding meetings with key targets and ensuring events offer engagement opportunities for potential new members;

· Ensuring that the Continuing Professional Development programme meets members’ expectations in Wales (and is open to all who are interested);

· Helping keep the UKELA website up to date on Welsh matters;

· Building a durable volunteer base to ensure activity beyond the two year period of specific paid support.

Benefits

11 days pro rata holiday (27 FTE), 3% pension contribution

Desirable:
