Description

Reporting to the UK Country Manager, the Commercial Officer has a core support role within the UK commercial team. Utilising his/her organisational and communication skills, the post holder contributes to a diverse range of activities to promote the MSC's mission and contribute to the successful working of the Commercial Team.

With support, he/she will be responsible for expanding the Fish & Kids project by providing information and explaining the process of participation to local authorities and schools interested in the project. The Commercial Officer will provide assistance to various team members specifically in support of the UK foodservice sector, offering an opportunity to become familiar with the wide ranging roles of the commercial team, including outreach to independent restaurants, universities and other clients as required. The Commercial Officer ensures that commercial enquiries from a range of stakeholders are dealt with promptly and consults with/includes the appropriate MSC commercial team member in any communication.

Duties supporting team members will be a responsibility of this role, including but not limited to; helping to organise and attending events; distributing MSC resources; arranging travel and accommodation.

General team administration and support will include a diverse range of tasks may be required periodically. A good general knowledge of sustainable development and a strong interest in sustainable seafood plus an interest in promoting the development of the MSC through working with key stakeholders in the commercial arena will ensure that there is potential for growth within the organisation.

Skills Required

  • A minimum of three years' experience in a similar or transferable role.
  • Strong communications skills to manage commercial enquiries in consultation with relevant team members and in supporting the expansion of the Fish & Kids project.
  • Experience working with the private sector promoting the business case for sustainable sourcing.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritise tasks – ability to manage a busy workload successfully.
  • Technical skills, such as familiarity with database management, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Explorer, Social Media.
  • Experience of contracting external suppliers, such as printers, travel agents or contractors and managing their work.
  • Experience of general admin duties such as managing large mail outs and regular distribution of information, managing travel and accommodation bookings.
  • Very well organised and methodical, pays close attention to detail.
  • Clear communicator.
  • Strong desire to learn on the job and an interest in the commercial aspect of the MSC.
  • High level of initiative and willingness to innovate to deliver MSC's work programme effectively.
  • Commitment to the MSC's mission and values.
  • Commitment to the MSC's policies on equal opportunities, environmental practices, and health and safety policies.
