Description

An exciting research fellowship is now available for a suitably motivated and qualified candidate to develop their own research interests in the area of climate impacts and adaptation.

Newcastle University is a core partner in the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change research, the UK’s interdisciplinary research centre for sustainable responses to climate change. Newcastle University has a very strong track record of research on climate change impacts and adaptation, including downscaling of climate scenarios, analysis of water scarcity and flooding, and integrated assessment of climate change in cities. As part of our ongoing commitment to the Tyndall Centre, this University-funded post has the dual objectives of carrying outstanding research in a field complementary to our existing research interests whilst at the same time helping to integrate climate change research within the Tyndall Centre in Newcastle University. The post will be hosted within the
School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, where we carry out cutting edge research on the interface between technological, natural and human systems. We use system simulation models to demonstrate the consequences of climate change and test alternative adaptation responses in a wide range of possible future scenarios.

The successful applicant may come from one of a variety of backgrounds, including engineering, environmental science, mathematics, physics or computer science. You will hold a PhD and already have noteworthy research outputs relating to one or more aspects of climate change impacts and adaptation. As Tyndall Centre Research Fellow you will cultivate new high impact research in fields that are complementary to our climate change interests in Newcastle University and integrate your work into our system simulation models in order to provide new insights into climate impacts and adaptation options. In addition to having a strong technical background, you will have good interpersonal skills and the ability to combine independent thinking with being part of a multi-disciplinary team. As Tyndall Centre Research Fellow you will help to promote climate change research within Newcastle University and will collaborate with the other universities who are partners in the Tyndall Centre consortium. The flexible scope of this post and its association with the Tyndall Centre offers a remarkable opportunity for an ambitious researcher who is seeking to develop a successful research career in the field of climate change impacts and adaptation.

This is a fixed term post for 2 years. For further information or informal discussion contact Dr Richard Dawson  (tel: 0191 222 6618; e-mail: richard.dawson@ncl.ac.uk
