Description

Turtle Watch Camp (TWC) volunteers play an essential role to the continued sustainability of our Hatchery and conservation processes. Our turtle heroes help monitor, patrol and release hatchlings whilst carrying out various projects and educational programmes to promote turtle conservation.

Volunteer objectives

 

  • To contribute to conservation ideas / development processes
  • To be actively involved in collecting data and conservation practices.

  • To develop a better understanding of turtle / enviromental conservation

  • To be educated and to educate visitors and local communities on conservation

 Activities / Duties

  • Island kayak / trekking patrols
  • Hatchery night checks / maintenance

  • Nesting / hatchling data collection

  • Beach & underwater clean-ups

  • Snorkelling / species recordings

  • Turtle conservation education

Requirements
  • Volunteers must be good swimmers, physically fit to walk long distances.
  • A background in biology, wildlife conservation or similar fields is advantagous.

  • Able to converse, receive and understand instructions in English.

  • Being able to work in a group and as an individual in basic living conditions.

  • To take initiative and help us develop our project further.

  • Flexibility to work nights and adapt to changing schedules as required.

  • Available for a suggested minimum of 2 weeks

  • It is mandatory for you to take out travel and medical insurance for the duration of the project.

Food and Accommodation

TWC volunteers stay in shared accommodation located on Long beach next the hatchery and dive center. Your accommodation consists of a shared room with 1 other person and is equipped with a basic kitchen and toilet. Our volunteers are free to use all the kitchen utensils available. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served daily at our staff canteen. The dishes served are typically Malaysian / Asian. There is no set menu, but on special requests you can have extra food items such as pasta and vegetables allowing you to make your own exciting dishes. TWC is a close team so we love to eat together!

Volunteering
  •  Volunteer between March - December
  • 1200 RM per week

  • 2500 RM per month

  • Incl. Shared (Duo) Accommodation 

  • Incl. Food and drink / drinking water

  • Minimum stay 1 week 

  • Incl. boat transfer to/from island

  • Optional Diving courses available

100% of our  volunteer’s fee goes towards covering the costs of running the hatchery, covering food, accomodation & logistics.
