The Sumatran Orangutan Society (SOS) is a non profit NGO dedicated to the conservation of Sumatran orangutans and their rainforest habitat. The organisation was founded over 10 years ago, and has international branches in the UK, Bali, Sweden, as well as networks in USA, Australia and New Zealand. Our field conservation programmes operate in Sumatra through our Indonesian partners, the Orangutan Information Centre. The UK office acts as the international headquarters of the organisation and is based in Oxford.

We are a small but expanding organisation, and we are looking for new trustees to contribute to and guide the strategic development of the charity. We are looking for people with expertise in the following areas: fundraising, grant writing, conservation, programme development, charity or business management,
campaigning, marketing and public relations, financial management, law, human resources, and volunteer management.

SOS trustees will meet at least twice per year in Oxford, and are expected to be available for consultation and input on a range of issues between meetings. Trustees operate in a voluntary capacity, but SOS will cover all reasonable expenses incurred while exercising your responsibilities. Details of trustee responsibilities can be found on the UK Charity Commission website:
www.charity-commission.gov.uk/publications/cc3.asp

If you are interested in becoming a trustee, have an interest in making a contribution to conservation in Indonesia and are able to contribute time to this role, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact Helen Buckland, UK Director to arrange an informal discussion. We would like to receive expressions of interest by 30th April 2009.
