Description

Recruiting trustees for Forum for the Future

At Forum for the Future, we like to think of ourselves as a “critical friend” to our partners and members. We too need critical friends. After some years of stability, we have several trustees coming to the end of their term and would like to recruit five new trustees to join our board.

We are excited about our system innovation strategy, our international expansion, and our potential to achieve significant change for sustainability; if you share our enthusiasm, please consider becoming part of our governing body. The Forum is a registered charity and a limited company, so our trustees also act as Company Directors and Members. As our trustee, you would be responsible for ensuring that the Forum abides by its charitable aims, works within the law, and delivers its mission effectively. You would oversee our policies and objectives of the Forum and ensure that our work is monitored and evaluated effectively. You would help determine our strategy, oversee the establishment of new international offices, and ensure that we are accountable to the public and to our stakeholders.

We are looking for trustee candidates who have a keen interest in sustainability and can contribute to our governance and strategy. As we are involved in quite a range of activities, it would be helpful if you can provide skills in one or more of the following areas: industry/private sector, government/public sectors, NGOs, entrepreneurs, academia, finance, fundraising, communications, social and organisational change, technological innovation, advocacy, legal and regulatory issues, futures, and international operations. You will also need to understand charity and employment law, and your responsibilities as trustees, but we will be able to provide induction and training in these areas.

Forum trustees meet for half a day, each quarter, in normal business hours. You would also have the opportunity to join our Audit and Assurance Committee, which meets each quarter to review our financial status and risk profile in more detail. If you would like to join our governance team, please see the full application pack. If you would like to discuss the role in more detail before applying, please contact Patti Whaley on 07739 199557 or p.whaley@forumforthefuture.org. Please submit a CV and covering letter to recruitment@forumforthefuture.org by 10th February 2014. Interviews will be held in the first week of March; newly-selected trustees will join the board at our AGM on 29 April.
