Sumatran orangutans are critically endangered and without urgent action could be the first Great Ape species to become extinct. SOS is dedicated to turning this situation around. We do this by:
We're a small charity, with a big impact. We're really proud of the results our projects are having – we have planted over half a million trees to restore damaged orangutan habitat in Sumatra, and we are supporting people living next to these precious areas to work towards a sustainable future for their forests. The organisation was founded over 10 years ago, and has international branches in theUK, Bali, andUSA. Our field conservation programmes operate inSumatrathrough our Indonesian partners, the Orangutan Information Centre. TheUKoffice acts as the international headquarters of the organisation and is based inOxford.
We are looking for new trustees to contribute to and guide the strategic development of the charity. We are currently seeking two new trustees with specific and substantial expertise in either fundraising or law/legal issues.
SOS trustees meet quarterly in Oxford, and are expected to be available for regular consultation and input on a range of issues between meetings. Trustees operate in a voluntary capacity, but SOS will cover all reasonable expenses incurred while exercising your responsibilities.
